From Uganda to Canada: How Music Healed My Heart

Music is a bittersweet passion for me. It brings me immense joy, hope, and excitement, yet also makes me vulnerable and contemplative about life's complexities - love, success, failure, and the what-ifs. Since moving to Canada in 2022, my relationship with music has transformed. It's no-longer just a hobby, but a necessity that fills the void and keeps me sane.

As a black African woman singing Afro music, I face challenges getting performances, but I cherish every opportunity. I pour my heart into every stage, leaving everything I have. Recently, I performed at:

- Newcomer Pride Celebrations (June 8th, 2024) - a meaningful event where music brought tranquility and joy to newcomers.
- Pride celebration with seniors (June 15th, 2024) - a fun event with original songs and covers, followed by valuable networking.
- Pearson International Airport terminal three (July 4th, 2024) - an energetic performance with guitarist Omar Martin, organized by Toronto Music Office.
- Centre for Black Development Options Canada's (CBDOC) annual conference (July 5th, 2024)
- A thought-provoking event addressing refugee issues, where I was honored to perform and learn.
